The Quarter Master Depot now preserved at Yuma Crossing State Historic Park was used by the U.S. Army to store and distribute supplies to military posts in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Texas. The supplies were brought by boat from California, around the Baja Peninsula to Port Isabel near the mouth of the Colorado River. From this point, the shipments were transferred to river steamers and brought upstream to Yuma. This era ended when the Southern Pacific Railroad reached Yuma in 1877 and made rail transportation the preferred method of delivery.
Park facilities include a 1907 Southern Pacific Steam Locomotive and Coach Car, Commanding Officers? Quarters, U.S. Army Quartermaster Supply Depot and Visitor Center.
