Cocopah Museum & Cultural Center

Photo Credit: Cocopah Museum & Cultural Center.

This small but intriguing museum features life-sized models of Cocopah ancestral people arranged in historic settings. The life-size dioramas illustrate the heritage of the Cocopah people who continue to reside in the Yuma area. All models in the museum are made from life casts of current members of the tribe as are the casts of hands, feet and shoulders, which are adorned with art and craft made by local Cocopah artists. The Cocopah Tribe opened the museum and tribal cultural center in October 1996. The Community?s traditional tribal dance grounds are used for tribal social events such as dances, hand games, and annual festivities. In addition to this exhibit room, the museum maintains a non-circulating library of Cocopah information and a gift shop.
